Truck repair on I-75 between Cincinnati and Dayton: what’s at every exit

Fifty miles of I-75 run from downtown Cincinnati to downtown Dayton. Most of the freight moving through southwest Ohio touches this stretch, and so does most of our work.

Where you break down on it matters more than what broke. A flat steer tire at Exit 6 is a genuinely dangerous situation. The same flat at Exit 29 is an inconvenience. Drivers who run this lane regularly already know this. Drivers passing through for the first time usually find out the hard way.

Here’s the corridor as we see it, exit by exit.

Quick reference

Cincinnati, exits 1 through 16

The run from the Brent Spence Bridge north through Mitchell Avenue, Paddock Road, and Sharonville is the hardest part of this corridor to break down on. Traffic is heavy, shoulders are narrow, and merging traffic is constant.

If your truck still moves, get off. A ramp shoulder is safer than the mainline. Exit 15 at Sharon Road and Exit 14 at SR 126 both have enough room to get a tractor-trailer out of the traffic lanes.

If it won’t move, put your triangles out at proper spacing, stay out of the traffic side, and call. When you reach us, tell us the exit number, the direction you’re headed, and whether any part of the truck is in a live lane. That last one changes how we approach.

West Chester and Liberty Township, exits 19 through 24

North of I-275 the road opens up. Shoulders widen, exits sit close together, and there’s actual truck infrastructure at Union Centre Boulevard (Exit 19), Cincinnati-Dayton Road (Exit 21), and Tylersville Road (Exit 22).

Our shop is here, at 8587 Butler Warren Rd in West Chester Township, a few miles east of the interstate. Come off at Exit 19 or Exit 22 and head east. There’s room on the property for a tractor-trailer to get in and turn around, which not every shop in this area can say.

What we see most in this stretch, usually because it’s where drivers finally stop after ignoring something since Kentucky:

Monroe and Middletown, exits 29 through 36

The Ohio rest areas just south of the SR 63 exit (Exit 29) are the most useful thing in this section. There’s one each direction near Liberty Township, both open 24 hours, both with truck parking.

If your truck is drivable but you know something is wrong, get to one of those and call us from there. Waiting in a rest area is safer and cheaper than waiting on a shoulder, and it gives us somewhere to work.

Franklin, Miamisburg, and into Dayton

North of Middletown your options thin out. The Pilot off Franklin-Lebanon Road in Franklin is the main 24-hour stop through the middle of this section. Parking fills up in the evenings.

We run calls up through Springboro and Miamisburg regularly. Past the I-675 interchange you’re in the Dayton service market, and it usually makes more sense to work with someone local up there. We’ll still come if you want us. We’d rather say that plainly than pretend the miles don’t count.

Check the road before you decide anything

I-75 through southwest Ohio has construction somewhere on it almost year-round. A single lane closure turns a twenty minute response into an hour.

ODOT runs OHGO, which has live cameras, incidents, and closures for the whole corridor. It’s free. Check it before you decide which direction to limp, and check it again before you tell a service truck how long it’ll take to reach you.

What we fix roadside and what needs a bay

Roadside, we handle tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, air leaks, lighting, trailer brakes, landing gear, and a good amount of electrical work. If we can reach it with hand tools and a service truck, we’d rather fix it where you sit.

Some jobs need the shop. Anything on a lift. Cooling system work past a hose. Transmission and clutch. Real engine teardown. Alignments, obviously. Deeper diagnostics usually go faster in a bay too, because we can leave the truck hooked up while we chase an intermittent fault.

If we get to you and it’s a bay job, we’ll tell you on the spot instead of billing an hour of roadside work that doesn’t solve it.

If this is your regular lane, use it

Plenty of drivers pass through West Chester twice a week and only think about service when something breaks.

Schedule your preventive maintenance around a delivery in the area instead of spending a home-time day on it. If your regens are getting closer together, get the DPF checked before it derates you somewhere with no shoulder. If you smell diesel in the cab, that’s a fuel system problem that only gets worse.

We’re an authorized AirDog dealer as well, so if you’ve been considering a lift pump on a high-mile diesel, we sell it, install it, and set it up right.
